Letter sent from a Christmas Bureau Distribution Day recipient
To whom it may concern:
Thank you for making my 3 girls have a special Christmas through the Christmas Bureau. I lost my full-time job before Thanksgiving and didn't have any money to get Christmas presents. Thank you for having great selections of toys and stocking stuffers and food for dinner. I really appreciated it. Keep up the good work! Happy New Year.
P.S. I found a full time job again, am keeping busy and getting back on my feet again!

Letter sent to Case Manager from a former PRISM client
Dear Salvation Army of the PRISM Program,
Thank you so much for the gifts. I don't know how much I could thank you all. I will miss you all.
Hope to see you soon. Thank you mr. Calloway and Taylaya and Erika. I will miss Mr. Calloway by how he helped me with math. he made me like math better now. I will miss Taylaya by how kind and how she was so respectful to anyone. Thank you again for that interview. Thanks to Erika for driving me home when I needed it. That was very nice of her.
I cannot say thanks enough to Simone. She was very kind and a nice person. I will always have her in my mind. So now I know how to handle any conflicts and myself. i hope that you all will have the program go again next year or so. Thank you all very much.
I will miss you all a lot. Thank you to the lady next to Taylaya. She was very kind.
Signed by your former client

Sorry it took so long for me to get this card to you but I was wondering and wondering what I could get you for Christmas. Then, I had a great idead for Christmas - I am giving you my word.
I promise to try my hardest to make it to all my appointments and to school everyday. I promise I will try and change my ways of reacting to things. I will continue to try and try.

Letter from former TAPC resident
In my heart, I believe there is a deeper purpose to the Parenting Center. I know this is a program for pregnant and parenting teenage females, but in my eyes, I see more. I see adults - adults who work for people such as us to make things possible in our futures. Some of those adults have even been in our same situation. I believe that the people who work for this program truly believe in who we are and what we are capable of. But it is up to us to be our own inspiration. Success is only possible with self-determination and self-motivation. As much as staff can believe in us and tell us its possible - we must put in the effort. I know school, work and motherhood is hard, trust me, I do all three. These things are even harder when you're young and when people doubt you. But forget those who don't believe in you. I do believe in everyone in here and so does all the staff at the parenting center.

If you really believe in yourself that's the only thing you need to have to get through in life. Keep believing in yourself and good things will come. Never give up and never let anyone tell you your dreams are unrealistic. I pray that everyone will succeed in the goals they have set for themselves.

May everyone who reads this and agrees please voice your opinion and extend a helping hand to those who need it.

Thank you,
Amanda Steinbrecher

Quote from a former Booth House resident

"I will always be grateful to The Salvation Army and Booth House for giving me a brief sense of safety during a rough time. Thank you for the work you do."

Sort of Like A Family
By: Tanisha

What SSA* means to me
It's a young adult program
It's a way to escape from a dysfunctional family

A safe environment that helps us learn living skills
Some of us need a safe place to heal
Some of us need a structured place to live
If you need that extra help SSA has that to give

The staff here are very easy to talk to
And when you're not in the right state of mind they're there for you
They are very understanding and kind
They help you deal with tough stuff that's on your mind
It's a great place for a new beginning and a new start
And if something heavy is holding down your heart
Staff is there to lighten up that load
And give you hope to hang on to and a future to hold

When I first moved here
I realized that there are places that really care
For young adults that need a home
And a safe place to call their own
This is a new experience for me
And some of the residents here became sort of a family

The Salvation Army supports SSA
Which abbreviates State St. Apartments who are there for you 24 hours a day
I know have hope more than before
Hope is what I needed
I rather not have anything more
Thanks SSA for being there for me
When all I needed was a family

Letter from John Sheridan of Elmcrest Elementary School

Dated 4/17/2007

Dear Salvation Army Staff:

Thank you for taking the time to help our students from Ed Smith and Elmcrest Elementary get a life-long lesson in helping others. Your generosity and "life experience" education will undoubtedly change our tomorrow through the students you taught April 4, 2007. Serving the less fortunate is important and you showed us how fun it can be and the process that goes into supporting so many needs in our community. The students all had a great time! All the teachers and parents felt like it was a very positive educational experience for everyone involved.

It is no surprise that the event was covered by the radio, newspaper and television. This is another indication of how essential the work is that you do on a daily basis.

Thanks for letting us help!

Yours in Serving Those in Need,
Mr. John Sheridan
The Parents, Teachers, Staff and Students of Ed Smith Elementary and Elmcrest Elementary

P.S. Hopefully we can do it again next year!

Letter from Christmas Supporter
Dated 1/4/07

Dear Development Office:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the volunteer opportunity you gave to me this past Christmas holiday. My family and I participated in shopping for youths at Barnabas House, with the immense generosity and compassion of my grandmother, our family was able to give back and contribute to your services. I truly appreciate all the services that you and The Salvation Army provide for our community. I especially take special concern to your youth services because I believe that in order to improve our society, and to improve self-esteem and confidence of individiuals, we should begin with the youth. Being a teenager myself, I find myself taking for granted all that my family can provide for me, and after working with your organization, with my family I have come to appreciate all that I can do for others who need my help. I look forward to participating again next year and many thanks again for this opportunity.

Thank you,
Lauren

Dear Staff,

I just want you to know that when special people like Salvation Army touch our lives, then suddenly, we see how beautiful and wonderful our world can really be.

Special people like Salvation Army and other agencies in our community show us that our special hopes and dreams can take us far, by helping others to look inward and believe in who we are. They bless us with their love and joy through everything they give. When people (special people like Salvation Army) touch our lives, they teach us how to live. You are a special kind of people who can brighten any minute of the day. Because of the work you do, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of your thoughtfulness and kindness adds so much joy to living, that's why God will always bless each one of you and your families to continue in His work until he returns.

Because of this great work of the Lord through Salvation Army, it gives me great pleasure to send this check. You all are loved so much for all the joy you all always give, May God bless each one of your and keep you safe in His Loving Care.

Sincerely,
A Salvation Army Donor
